Mini Ways to Reach Many Learners: Dear TPSF,

Here are some pictures of students using the iPad minis.  Without the Tahlequah (Public Schools) Foundation this technology wouldn't be possible! Students use these to read & listen to books in English & Spanish.  They also use them on projects to research, take pictures, and record.  They are such a blessing! I'm wanting to add more software and technology to take the library to a new level. Enhancing the space to STREAM with a Makerspace feel.  My goal . . . total hands on May 2017. It will be the third phase of my library dream for the space & students.

Tech for Reading Fluency: Dear TPSF,

Our kiddos are able to improve their reading fluency with a number of programs and apps on the 2 ipads purchased for each 1st grade classroom.  We have one particular program that allows students to listen to a book, read it, then record themselves reading it again so they can hear their miscues and make corrections.  The children are inspired to read and re-read to improve their fluency.  This has really impacted the way they think about how they read and what others hear when they read.  We have the unexpected added bonus of fluency with sight words and math facts as well.  Your donation has made a huge impact on reading fluency and engagement in our classrooms.  We can’t be more thankful to you all!!

Sincerely,

iPads for Impact: Dear TPSF,

Good Afternoon!

My first graders use our iPad minis for leveled reading and comprehension games, as well as math fact practice. With the help of this technology in our classroom, our students have made tremendous gains and they anticipate using them every day! The first question I hear most mornings is “Whose iPad day is it?” The foundation has truly blessed each of our first grade teachers and students. We truly appreciate their help in encouraging our students toward success!

Calculators for Testing: Dear TPSF,

Tahlequah High School Counseling and Math Departments are extremely grateful for the Tahlequah Education Foundation Grant that allowed the purchase of two hundred TI-30XS scientific calculators for testing purposes. From the testing perspective, it has allowed us to insure that every student who takes a math portion of a state or standardized test has a scientific calculator in hand. The calculators have been used for End of Instruction (EOI), ACT Plan, and PSAT testing. Facilitating the testing has been much smoother without having to gather up 200 calculators from the math department.

From the math department’s perspective, it has allowed the continuity of instruction during each of these tests. Before, the math department would have to give up their classroom sets of scientific calculators to allow them to be used for several days of testing. This often happened during the critical review time math teachers had before students tested. Hundreds of students have been positively impacted from both the classroom and testing perspectives. Tahlequah High School greatly appreciates the Foundation’s commitment to our students and their education!

Science and Social Studies Kits: Dear TPSF,

We have used the kits continuously in all three 2nd grade classrooms! Not only do they add wonderful extensions to our units of study, but also great hands-on activities that help solidify the harder concepts being taught. Our students also use them when completing projects for I Wonder Workshop. The students choose a topic that interests them and they research it independently. The end goal of I Wonder Workshop is that the students share their knowledge in a unique and informative way to our class. Many of the tubs have been extra resources not only in the research, but also in the presentations! The science and social studies tubs have definitely filled a need in our curriculum and our classrooms!

I Can With iPads: Dear TPSF,

With the introduction of additional iPads in the classroom, more children are able to access the applications to reinforce the lessons and ideas that are being taught.  More children can access knowledge through their different learning styles.

Win Big at Glow Golf 2015

 Congratulations

Coach Rappe won teeth whitening from the generous office of Rouse Dentistry.

Matt Cloud won a beer brewing class courtesy of The Flying Weasel
Kevin Dudley played on the winning team and walked away with a big-screen tv courtesy of DIS. (Of course, Mark Dobbins WON the prize. Kevin claimed he was taking it to him!)

Greg Jackson had a lucky night, too. Not only did he win one of the televisions from DIS, but he also won the fall foliage tour in the new medevac helicopter.

Thanks to our partners, sponsors, and teams for another great event.
Be sure and mark your calendar for next year's Glow Golf event--Thursday before Halloween!

Congrats to TPSF!

An Outstanding Program Award and a check for $1000 was presented to Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation at the Fall Forum held by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence in Norman today.

TPSF was honored for their Glow Golf Event--a twist on the traditional golf tournament fundraiser because it is played in the dark with lighted golf balls, flashlights, black lights, and neon lighted flags.

Board members Lucas Foster and Brandi Barnett presented a session that spotlighted how to host your own Glow Golf tournament.

It was a day filled with affirmation that we are doing something right in Tahlequah and lighting the path towards excellence. We can't do it without our community. Thank you!

TPSF and NSU Men's Soccer Team Up for Winning Results

Defending MIAA regular season and tournament champions the NSU RiverHawks hosted TPSF Day Thursday, September 24, for the conference opening game. Both TPSF and the RiverHawks had a winning night.  The college team defeated nationally ranked Lindenwood University, and TPSF walked away with a little over $600 extra to donate to elementary school grants. (Due to NCAA regulations, the money raised at DeLoache Field must be donated to our younger students at Greenwood, Heritage, Cherokee, or Sequoyah.)

The action on the field wasn't the only competition Thursday night.  The elementary school that raised the most money for TPSF won a future visit from NSU RiverHawk mascot Rowdy and members of the team. Kids searched the sidelines and stands, asking for donations as well as catching people at the gate.

Heritage Elementary School earned the most money--and the privilege to welcome Rowdy and his RiverHawk friends to an assembly.

The fun didn't end there.  Members of the RiverHawks Academy teams, a branch of Tahlequah Soccer Club, walked out with the players at the beginning of the game and stood on the field as the Star Spangled Banner played.  They also scrimmaged on the college field at half time.

The NSU men’s team is committed to community. NSU Head Coach Rob Czlonka is not only last year’s Regional and MIAA Coach of the Year, he is also a coach with heart. He said, “We owe it to those coaches, teachers and mentors--who instilled discipline, passion, and a desire to achieve--to continue the chain of being good role models. As soccer players and athletes, we try to give good pictures to those kids who watch us, in the hopes that they will be inspired and challenged to develop those skills in themselves.”  Team members volunteer for PTO jog-a-thons, soccer clinics in schools, and as rec team coaches. Head Coach Rob Czlonka started a soccer academy in conjunction with Tahlequah Soccer Club and serves on their board, training area rec coaches in order to spread his passions of soccer and service.

Thank you to all who came out and supported two generous groups: TPSF and NSU Men's RiverHawks.

This little light of mine...

A few of the 60 students who lit up the stage this summer during
Oklahoma's first production of The Lion King, made possible with a grant from TPSF.

Our motto is lighting the path towards excellence.

We are able to fund grants because of people just like you.

Some donate a few dollars.

Some donate a little more.

Some donate oodles.

With each dollar, you improve a child's educational experience. No amount is too small. No amount is too big.

Make a difference. Make a future brighter.
